It was a very cold winter at Uncle Billy's with several falls of snow.
Good fishing reports were received, with trout up to 1.5 kg caught, mainly on Nymphs, Woolly Buggers a Mrs. Simpson.
The Fly featured for Winter is the "Black & Olive Woolly Bugger". This pattern is very successful at Uncle Billy's Retreat. The key to its success is plenty of action, provided by a closely palmered hackle and a tail of soft turkey marabou. It can be weighted with a bead-head or a lead wire underbody. It can imitate a variety of prey including dragonfly nymphs or small fish. The black and olive version is particularly effective.
