The fly featured this month is the "Black Ant".
May 2004 has been quite mild with only a few frosts and only a couple of millimetres of rain recorded to date. With the warmer days, there have been good hatches late afternoon. Many different patterns have worked but the Fly that has had the most success was the small olive green nymph. The Black Ant and small Brown Beetle (see March 2004 Fly of the Month) also worked well.
