Meet Uncle Billy and his wife Sue. Bill comes from a pioneering family and is a fourth generation member to operate a farming enterprise in the Wandsworth area. Yoolimba (which means land of tall trees) is a working farm. Fine merino sheep, fat lambs and a mixture of Hereford, Angus, Santa Gertrudis and Charolais cattle are grazed on the property.
Lake Yoolimba was built in 1975 and covers 15 acres. It was originally built to irrigate in dry times, however Bill a keen trout fisherman decided to stock the lake with trout fingerlings so the family could enjoy recreational fishing. In 1995 it was decided to diversify and Uncle Billy’s Farmstay and Fishing Retreat became a reality. 12 years on the Retreat has become an important part of the farming enterprise. The Fishout has increased to include more lakes and “The Lodge”, a double brick cabin, was built in 1999.
The peacefulness and privacy that Uncle Billy’s offers, has attracted guests from all over Australia and the world. The variety of birds that habitat the lakes creates an environmental heaven.
Bill & Sue have 3 married sons, Mark, John & Robert and seven grandchildren. Uncle Billy’s would not have eventuated without the help initially of all three sons. Two of the families live on adjoining properties and John lives at Guyra, 31 km from Yoolimba. “Jack” a loyal aborigine and dedicated gardener has been with the family for many years and strives to maintain immaculate grounds.
